Letter from Head Teacher at Malorees School Kensal Rise NW6

Lyndons Arts Trust is a collective of artists who have been based at our school for the past three years. They have afforded opportunities to our children that they otherwise would not have had. The following is a resume of what they have accomplished:

§  Created a workshop

§  Set up a training programme for volunteers in charitable projects

§  Encouraged children to become involved in charitable projects e.g. Great Ormond Street Hospital and the outreach programme in the East End of London

§  Organised for our children to support charitable events for other children

§  Run classes for parents and children

§  Supported the annual Arts Week at our school

§  Worked with children from the local Special School who have joined our school as part of an inclusion project

§  Provided playtime art activities for vulnerable children who would otherwise be isolated or get up to mischief in school

§  Produced beautiful art work with the children for the school

§  Provided a drop in centre, based on the main playground, for at least one hundred children a week

§  Provided curriculum support for teachers

§  Liaised with parents

§  Provided art activities during holidays for members of the local community

§  Participated in a project "Rights for Children"  which was exhibited at the Royal  College of Art

§  Are currently working on a project for a book on 'Conservation', using 'Collage' in aid of endangered species from wildlife to wildflowers.

§  Have become an innovative training centre for volunteer art students and post graduates to improve their training.

Invited our children to join the 'Outreach' programme in Tower Hamlets, encouraging them to delevope a sense of 'Community'.

Children who work with Lyndons benefit not only from the expertise of "real" artists but also from learning social skills which will ultimately help them to become good citizens.
