A HISTORY OF LYNDONS PROGRAMMES

THE TABERNACLE CENTRE W11: Lyndons Arts Trust was formed in 1996. Following Mary McGowan’s 8 years creating & running the large community gallery, specifically for the community, promoting the work of young artists across Britain & linking exhibitions to supporting local charities in the RBK&C.

THE HARROW CLUB W10: A newly redesigned community centre invited Lyndons artists to help design & run an arts programme, including a ceramics work shop with 2 kilns. The programme included: Family workshops: Community open days: Over 60s clubs: Workshops for Ethnic Minority Women’s Groups: A £7,000 update of a back yard to a garden: Exhibitions & art events.

LYNDONS ARTS GALLERY PORTOBELLO ROAD W11: One year programmes run along the same lines as the Tabernacle.

MIDDLE ROW PRIMARY SCHOOL W10: Lyndons were invited to run a 3 year arts programme & ceramics centre in a separate arts block with 2 kilns available. Family workshops, after school clubs, curriculum support, Team Days with a City Finance Company, involving the children in community projects, workshops for adults with severe learning difficulties, workshops for the over 60s. Also the creation of large scale mosaics for the school walls, a £5,000 update of the junior playground & holiday projects with the schools play centre.

PAST PROJECTS

OUTREACH PROGRAMME: HORN OF AFRICA: A £6,000 project on the Horn of Africa Celebration, with workshops run for the women & children’s groups from Somalia, Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda. Art, dance & poetry formed an all day event at the Tabernacle W11.

THE WEDDING DRESS PROJECT: Requested by Kensington Palace: A Celebration of the Queens Jubilee, the £ 35,000 project was to create 8 wedding dresses, with ethnic women’s groups & children’s groups for a large display at the Orangery Kensington palace. Photo sheets are available on request.
